Whirlwind

I feel like the last 2 weeks have been a whirlwind with school starting back up. Busy, busy, busy! Shane absolutely loves kindergarten! He is having a great time, but it is really wiping him out. The poor guy is exhausted by Wednesday... but he's hanging in there!

Last weekend we found a spot on the Feather River where we could fish and have a picnic dinner. It was a nice, peaceful evening.

The Butte County Fair was in town this past week, so we went to the fair Friday night. We had our corn dogs and Shane got to ride the rides.

Saturday we went to the cabin for the night. It was a quick trip, but Shane managed to find a cool snake. And of course, he caught a few fish with Daddy, too!

My First Day of School

Well, I don't have any cute pictures of my first day of school, but I thought I would let everyone know that it went well. Working with young adults is a whole different world from working with early elementary level kids. When the students all sat down with their lunches and started eating without crawlilng under the table or trying to run around, I wasn't quite sure what to do with myself. And then I remembered.... I get to eat, too! What a luxury! I think I'm going to like my new job!

It Was A Good First Day!

What a big guy! Shane was all ready for school today with his new shoes, his new football shirt and his new backpack (Thanks, Nana!). Brooks and I both dropped him off. We got to go into the classroom with him while he found his cubby and explored the room a little. He found his nametag on the table where he will be sitting. Then Mrs. Heffrin had the kids sit on the rug and sing a song. After that it was time to say goodbye to moms and dads and they were off to play on the playground for a little while. Shane waved goodbye and he was ready to go.

Grandma picked Shane up from school and she said that he couldn't stop talking about his day. He told me that the playground is awesome and that they had to sit the WHOLE time they were in the classroom. He's very excited to go back tomorrow!

My first day with students is tomorrow. I've moved to a new position teaching a transition class which is made up of 18 - 22 year olds who are getting ready for life outside of school. It will be a big change for me, but I am excited. Here's hoping that my first day is as good as Shane's was!

It's the First Day of Kindergarten!

Quiet weekend at the cabin

Brooks and I got to spend a weekend alone at the cabin. We had a really nice time. The weather was perfect. We had a chance to go kayaking together and watch the sun go down.

We went for a hike on the West Branch and Brooks caught a few fish.

I had fun looking for cool flowers to take pictures of.

Now it's back to the real world. Our summer vacation is just about over. Shane starts kindergarten on August 15th!!! And my students will be back starting August 16th. I'm taking a new positon this year. It's exciting and a little scary, too. I'm sure I'll be posting some Back-to-School pictures and info over the next few weeks!

5 Days at the Cabin

Well, we spent 5 days at the cabin. We had a lot of fun, but also learned that 5 days is about enough (at least according to Shane by way of the crying spree he went on the morning of the last day). That aside, it was actually nice to have a stretch of days to just relax and escape real life for a while. I read two books and spent a lot of time just hanging out on the dock. Brooks and Shane undertook Operation Brown Trout in the mornings and caught a few fish.

On Tuesday we went to Last Chance Creek which is really beautiful. We waded through the water and Brooks taught Shane how to fly fish. He caught 3 fish!
